Cost for most programs are included with your entrance fee, unless otherwise noted.
Admission to the Environmental Education Center is $2 for adults and $1 for children ages 10 to 17.
Free admission for children under age ten.

The GTM Environmental Education Center will be undergoing building repairs.
Indoor events are subject to change or be held at the Trailhead Pavilion.
There is a $3/parking fee to park at the Trailhead Pavilion (annual GTM pass holders FREE).
All outdoor events will continue as usual.

--“Sea Turtles”--
Bring your lunch to the Environmental Education Center and enjoy an informative presentation on sea turtles. Our featured speaker will be Tara Dodson with the St. Johns County Endangered Species Protection Program. There is no cost to attend the lecture.

--Discover the importance of the beach habitats--
The GTM Research Reserve will host a beach walk at the Guana South Beach location. Join GTM Research Reserve Volunteer Rick Edwards for this “Beaches 101” experience; an informative and fun walk and learn about the sand, the importance of the dunes, and the animals that call the beach their home. Reservations are required. Please call (904) 823-4500 to reserve your spot. Meet at the Guana South Beach parking lot approximately two miles north of the Environmental Education Center. Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water. Regular parking fees apply, $3.00 per vehicle, annual GTM pass holders FREE.

FAMILY FUN HOUR

-- Nature Story and Craft --
A nature story will be followed by a craft activity for participants to take home. This event is open to the public; however children ages 3 to 10 must be accompanied by an adult, one adult for every two children please. Cost for the program is $2 per person which includes entry into the Environmental Education Center. Registration is required by contacting the GTM Research Reserve at (904) 823-4500. All materials for the event will be supplied.

RESEARCH RESERVE 101; BEHIND THE SCENES TOUR

--Learn about the estuary and recreational activities the reserve has to offer--
Join a Research Reserve interpreter for a guided tour of the GTM Research Reserve Environmental Education Center (EEC). Participants will get a behind the scenes look at the artifacts and science laboratories inside the EEC. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

ALLIGATORS PRESENTATION AT THE RESERVE

-- Florida’s Top Predator—
Participants can learn about the alligator’s habitat, prey, reproduction, history with man, and how to avoid conflict in a state with over a million alligators. On hand will be a live gator. After the talk, there will be a short hike to observe wild alligators in their native habitat. Bring water and insect repellant for the hike. Children must be accompanied by an adult. One adult for every two children please. Seating is limited. Reservations are required. Call to reserve at (904) 823-4500.

Brown Bag Lunch Lecture

--“Marine Debris and You”--
Bring your lunch and join Education Coordinator, Angie Golubovich, and Nease High School students as they partner to share some of the latest information regarding marine debris. Participants will hear about findings from the recent International Coastal Cleanup conference and local data from the Nease International Baccalaureate Program Beach Cleanup conducted in March each year. Participants will gain an understanding of the purpose, importance, and scope of the International Coastal Cleanup and data collected. Participants will also learn ways to help lessen the impact of debris and upcoming cleanup events in which they can participate. There is no cost to attend the lecture.

“LIVING WITH NATURE” CLASS

-- Homeowners can learn more about wildlife in the backyard --
This class was developed for homeowners to get to know their scaly, furry and feathered neighbors that live in Florida’s backyards. The course includes understanding Northeast Florida’s reptiles and amphibians, beneficial insects, mammals and common area and migratory birds. Learn simple ways to identify these animals and how to increase habitat diversity in your own backyard. In addition, native plants and their value to wildlife will be explored. Participants will also receive tips and suggestions for creating their own backyard habitat plan. Cost to attend the entire two day course is $5.00. Registration is required; seating is limited. INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP

The International Coastal Cleanup is the world’s oldest and largest volunteer effort to clean up our marine environment. Each year, volunteers remove and record data on the trash and debris collected from their local beaches, rivers, lakes and streams as well as along shorelines and underwater. Since 1986, over six million volunteers in 127 countries have participated in this global event involving every major body of water on the planet! We need your help! If you’re interested in helping to clean up local beaches and contributing data to an international effort, come out to the Research Reserve! CHECK IN IS FROM 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Research Reserve’s Environmental Education Center OR at our Marineland office located at 9741 Ocean Shore Blvd. (A1A) Marineland, FL.

GTM RESEARCH RESERVE CELEBRATES NATIONAL ESTUARIES DAY

--Family event focuses on the magical places where rivers meet the sea--
In honor of the nationwide event, a multitude of activities are planned for the entire family to enjoy. National Estuaries Day activities will focus on the importance of our estuaries and the need to protect them. Included in the festivities will be presentations by the nationally recognized group of professional puppeteers “The Puppet People”, best known for their people-sized puppets. Bring the family and join us for a fun and educational day. Admission is $5 per person; children age 3 and under are free. All event proceeds will be used to support the education, research and stewardship programs of the Reserve. Food will also be available for purchase from Hot Diggity Dawgs. August: “Hawks Up Close”
Spend 55 fascinating minutes with the 30 species of hawks with whom we share our North American continent. Celebrate the speed, agility and other adaptations which have sculpted the hawks’ forms to perfection.

Admission to the Environmental Education Center is $2 for adults, $1 for children aged ten to 17 and children under ten are free.
