This week, the GTM Research Reserve’s Adventures in the Estuary (10-12 year old) campers focus on the issue of marine debris! Soda cans, plastic bags, and other sources of debris can cause a major threat to ocean life. To help create a solution to this growing challenge, the campers are building a device that acts as a water filter for trash and other unnatural debris found in the water. This seabin project was originally designed by a team in Australia and has inspired the young minds at GTM. The bins are currently in the early stages of the designing process. Our campers also participated in an ocean seining activity where they pulled a large seine net from the ocean and analyzed its contents. Check out the slideshow below!
